Licences are where states differ most
Company law is central and works the same in every state. Licensing is not. The act, the forms, the fee slabs, the renewal cycle and even the name of the licence change when you cross a state border, which is why generic checklists usually send people to the wrong window.
The other common error is category. Applying for FSSAI basic registration when your turnover requires a state licence means reapplying, and trading on the wrong category is treated the same way as trading without one.

Licences questions
Which licence does a bank ask for to open a current account?
Most banks accept two registrations in the business name. For a proprietor that is usually Udyam registration plus either GST or the shop and establishment certificate. Companies and LLPs use the incorporation certificate instead.
Do home based food businesses need FSSAI?
Yes. Any business that handles food for sale needs at least basic registration, including home kitchens and cloud kitchens working from a residential address. Delivery platforms will ask for the number before your listing goes live.
Is Udyam registration really free?
Yes. The Udyam portal charges no government fee. Any site charging you a government fee for it is charging for something that does not exist. Our fee covers the classification check, the NIC codes and the filing.
How long do these licences take?
Udyam is usually the same day or the next. An import export code takes two to five working days. FSSAI and shop and establishment depend on the state and the category, and typically run one to three weeks.
Not sure which one you need
Describe the business in a line. A chartered accountant tells you which of these applies, what it costs and how long it takes.
