What actually changes when you cross a state line

Company law is central, so incorporation works the same way in Guwahati as it does in Mumbai. Almost everything around it is state law. Stamp duty on the MOA changes, the shops and establishments act changes, and whether your payroll carries professional tax changes.

Jurisdiction changes too, and not always the way people expect. Haryana companies file with the Registrar of Companies in Delhi, Assam files through Shillong, and Madhya Pradesh files through Gwalior even when the office is in Indore.

On every city page

  • The Registrar of Companies with jurisdiction
  • The GST state code for that state
  • The shops and establishments act that applies
  • Whether the state levies professional tax
  • The civic body for premises related licences

Every city page

Each page carries the jurisdiction, the state code and the local rules that apply to that filing in that city.
