Three different rights, three different jobs
A trademark protects the name customers use to find you. Copyright protects the thing you made. A patent protects how an invention works. They are filed with different offices, examined on different tests, and last for different periods.
What they share is that filing early is cheap and filing late is not. Once a competitor registers a confusingly similar mark, or your invention has already been disclosed publicly, you move from pointing at a certificate to arguing about evidence.
What you get either way
- A chartered accountant assigned to your file
- Documents checked before anything is submitted
- Filing under our professional login, not yours
- Acknowledgements and certificates in one folder
- Reminders before the next due date
What each right protects
Most brands need the first one. Software and design teams usually need the first two.

Trademark questions
Do I need a trademark if I have registered the company name?
Yes. Company name approval at the MCA stops another company from incorporating under the same name. It does not stop anyone from selling under that brand. Only a trademark registration does that, and it is examined against a different register.
When can I use the TM and the R symbols?
You can use TM from the day the application is filed. The R symbol can only be used after the mark is registered, and using it before registration is an offence.
How much does a trademark cost in government fees?
The e-filing fee is 4,500 rupees per class for individuals, startups, small enterprises and Udyam certificate holders, and 9,000 rupees per class for everyone else. It is charged separately from our professional fee, at actuals.
Should I file a patent before or after launching?
Before. Public disclosure can destroy novelty, so the provisional specification should go out before a demo day, a paper or a launch. If you have already disclosed, tell us early, because the remaining options are time limited.
Not sure which one you need
Describe the business in a line. A chartered accountant tells you which of these applies, what it costs and how long it takes.
